The Proud Geek is released in to the public

The Proud Geek website is launched.

Well, here it is, the first post on my brand new website theproudgeek.com.  I am very happy so far with the way it is looking.  I’m not exactly sure what the blog posts will contain yet, I really just want to put together updates for what is happening across the various topics I am highlighting on this website.

So please bear with me while I build this up because I am still quite new to the whole website and blogging thing.

The main purpose of the blog is just to introduce people to things that they may not have otherwise known about. there are so many niche hobbies out there that don’t get the publicity they deserve. So I am making it my mission to bring them to you, no matter how weird they might be. I hope you enjoy the site and find some new geeky hobbies to spend you time on.

To start us off, here are a few things I found really interesting this week.

Hobby News

lego-yellow-submarine-setLEGO have this week released a new set called The Beatles Yellow Submarine (21306). I love this and I think I will have to buy one. It consists of 550 pieces and retails for $59.99 US. Which I think is a very good price for such an iconic set. I am sure this will become a collectible in the future. (Or maybe I’m just showing my age, when I mentioned it to my 7 year old son, he said, “who are the Beatles”..)

The set is based on the 1969 movie featuring the Fab four.  The set also includes Minifigures of all four of the Beatles.

the-lego-minifigure-catalogueAnother cool thing I found today was this book by Christoph Bartneck that is a complete catalogue of all the Lego Minifigures released since 1975 to 2015.  The 580 page hardback book is retailing for around $69.
This is actually a complete list of every Lego minifigure from the very first one released in 1975, the one with no arms.

I’m sure the serious Minifigure collectors will already own a previous edition of this book but apparently the author has said he will not be releasing any more editions. So this is your last chance to get your hands on one.

Gadget News

The New Apple Mac Book Pro has dropped the SD card reader. A bold move I think. In an interview with The Independent, Apples Senior Vice President Phil Schiller talked about the decision and that the SD card reader was a cumbersome feature that is becoming less important as wireless tech becomes more prominent.

Microsoft announced some of the new features that will be added to the Windows 10 update. Some really cool new things such as 3D paint and improved wireless working. You can read all about it here.

Well I think thats enough for now, I will post new and cool stuff as often as I can so I hope you enjoy reading it. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions or ideas for anything to include in this website then please let me know through the contact form.

Thanks for reading

Tony
